I used my last wish to free a djinni. The magical authorities called it theft.
Now DJ and I are hiding out in a mansion she conjured from a half-built house beside the Rio Grande. It was supposed to be my quiet retirement. Instead, I’m falling for an oni with a foot in the bureaucracy, a panther-shifting nagual making herself at home, and a water spirit with holes in her memory who’s decided we’re her people.

WARD still lists DJ as an asset. They’re coming to find out what else is living under my roof.
They can call it a recovery operation. I call it coming for my Kin.
Come and take ’em. If you can.
