Jasper is the younger brother of the sheriff in the town of Hillcrest; a place where supernatural things happen on a regular basis. Being the kid brother of Trevor Parrish usually just means he gets to ride to school in a cruiser and hang out at the station sometimes. Trevor, always the protector, tries to keep him from all the weird things that happen in town until one day they can no longer run from it. Something is going on in Hillcrest, something big, and Jasper knows that whatever it is, he is right in the middle of it.
He has always felt different from other people. Something inside him sets him apart from the rest of the world. When mysterious things begin to occur in Hillcrest, he finds himself undergoing a transformation that he can't comprehend or manage. While his brother is trying to figure out what is happening to the town, Jasper is trying to figure out what’s going on with himself. With the help of his best friend, Ryan Stryker, he discovers the bad things in Hillcrest have everything to do with what’s changed in him.
They quickly learn the storm brewing in Hillcrest has been coming for a long time. There is an evil there that none of them can outrun.
