Siân arrived in the city just as the cold and wet of winter swept in, two months earlier than expected. She was virtually penniless, which is another way of saying hungry, and her clothes were only barely warm enough to keep her alive. Living on the streets on your own is tough, especially when you're a forest elf, you've never been in a city before, and you're a woman as well.

But she was lucky, she found a mentor, a busker by the name of Bob the Whistle. He showed her the ropes, and offered friendship when that was what she needed most in the world.

But now? Now he's dead, killed by a scourge that no-one in her quarter of the city dares to act against.

She can survive on what he's already taught her, but survival is not living. How can she build a better future for herself?

And can she fulfil her vows, firstly to avenge her childhood friend, and now also to bring Bob's killers to justice?
