An impossible choice that will change the world as we know it...
Valeri Rudik has always been wary of his strange Guardian magic. Now a student at Oxford, his only goal is to keep his head down, avoid unwanted attention, and focus on his groundbreaking research into quantum theory.
When he meets the enthusiastic Henry Thorne, a fellow Guardian, he realizes there is so much more to his magic than he ever knew. His theories suddenly seem possible, and the power he’s hidden thrums to life. Sharing their research, he and Henry find a mind-boggling connection between their special magic and time travel.
But as they get closer to unlocking the secret to traveling through time, the strange and volatile power of their magic threatens to erupt. Their experimentation becomes dangerous and deadly, and without warning, Valeri receives the terrifying summons—there has been a nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl, and he must protect the magical forces contained in nearby Pripyat before the pocket is poisoned forever. Always the cautious one, he is caught between his fate and the friendship that’s changed his life.
Ultimately, Valeri must make an impossible choice—trust his magical instincts or honor the friendship that will lead to the scientific discovery of a lifetime.
